The Yellow Lifeguard House on Siesta Key Beach, FL is the first in a series of photos taken early in the morning before many people arrived. It presents one of several lifeguard houses on what has been recognized as having the "whitest and finest sand in the world."
The colorful lifeguard houses on a beautiful summer day with ocean and blue cloudy sky Siesta Beach is known as one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world. Unlike beaches elsewhere that are made up mostly of pulverized coral, Siesta Beach's sand is 99% quartz. Even on the hottest days, the sand is so reflective that it feels cool underfoot.

Most of my life has been spent in teaching and administrating in higher education. Job changes have moved me from my home in New England to the Midwest, and even to a year in Nairobi, Kenya. I have Joyce Tenneson and a few other people to thank for their skillful presentation of nature. While it was enjoyable and at times satisfying to capture an image in sharp detail, I have preferred to focus on its texture, tones, and shape. My newfound interest in nature as art has not been to present nature's beauty in photocopy detail, but rather as I have come to see it.
